Valerie Fridland is a professor at the University of Nevada at Reno, and she earned a PhD in the interesting and important field of sociolinguistics. She recently authored “Like, Literally, Dude: Arguing the Good for Bad English,” a book that examines the relationship between language and society. In today’s episode, John and Valerie explore the impact of language on our everyday lives and discuss how society forms preconceptions about people based on their language. They also dive into some of the linguistic techniques that sales professionals can use to speak with power and purpose.
